In 1958, Shanghai Research Institute of Construction Technology was established, mainly providing service of construction material test.

In 1963, renamed as Shanghai Research Institute of Building Sciences, began to undertake research and development for construction industry.

In 1970s, SRIBS built a number of laboratories, including construction material, chemistry material, building structure, construction machinery, concrete and design as well.

In 1980s, SRIBS kept developing from a government-sponsored institute to a science & technology service provider, not only in Shanghai, but also nationwide.

In 1990s, with rapid growth of the city, SRIBS upgraded as a comprehensive institute, providing R&D solution for urban renovation and major construction projects.

In 2000, SRIBS turned into a limited company.

In 2006, SRIBS Group was set up, with a number of companies, providing engineering consulting, test and design, not only in building, but also in transportation and environment.

From 2017 to Today, SRIBS has become a mixed-ownership enterprise, with shareholders of public sectors, private sectors and strategic investors, apply oneself to a leading urban development, management and operation service provider.
